This past week, Johannes was in the Netherlands for a conference for work. Since it so conveniently butted up with the weekend and he was done with sessions and presenting, I was able to fly up for a few days and meet him in Amsterdam! We had a great 4-day mini-vacation in this crazy and beautiful city. We stayed at a cute little cabin in a campground on the waterfront and spent everyday discovering the city. Of course Amsterdam is famous for being the crazy liberal, pot smoking, red-light district city raved about in travel guides, but some of the best parts of our trip we taking busses and trams to the non-touristy areas. While we like to get off the beaten track, we of course couldn't miss some of the very touristy sights such as the Heineken Brewery tour, Hard Rock Cafe, the Red Light District and much more. Here are a few pics from our trip...enjoy!
(Bikes EVERYWHERE in the entire city!)
(Johannes is very excited about all of the french fry stands)
(Enjoying our free pints at the Heineken Brewery)
(Johannes at the AJAX stadium)
(We had to try it...hot fast-food from a vending machine- surprisingly not bad!)
(Waiting to board our boat for our evening wine & cheese canal cruise)
(Amsterdam Central Trainstation)
(View down one of the many canals in the city)
