After 6 hours of labor, a failed epidural and an emergency c-section- our adorable little trouble-maker finally arrived at 2:51am on February 26th. She weighed just over 3000 grams and measured 50 cm long. We stayed in the hospital for 3 days before choosing to go home early under the care of a private midwife. (If you choose to be discharged earlier than 5-6 days in the hospital, you are required to find midwife to take over your case). She visited us at home a few days later just to check that both Nora and I were doing well and to answer any questions that we had. The 'Austrian hospital experience' was excellent. There was a great support system of doctors, midwives and staff as well as fabulous facilities for learning to take care of your new baby such as dedicated rooms for nursing, changing, baths, and more all staffed with round-the-clock experts to help and answer questions if needed. Although the birth didn't go exactly as planned, we are happy, healthy and glad to be home :) Here is the birth announcement of our beautiful babe!

She is perfect! Congrats Schmied family!
Those babies have a way of coming into the world just the way they want to and we don't always have a say in it. What is most important is that she is healthy and all of you look sooooo happy. So happy for you. XOXO She is soooo beautiful!!!
